Park Primary are Breaking Limits

Park Primary School recently had the pleasure of welcoming Bart from Breaking Limits for an inspiring and educational visit. Bart, who lives with a disability, shared his personal journey with the pupils, highlighting the challenges he faces daily and how he overcomes them with resilience and determination.

A Musical Treat

The visit began with Bart showcasing his incredible talent on the piano. The pupils were mesmerized as he played a beautiful piece, demonstrating that his disability does not define his abilities. This performance set the tone for a day filled with learning and empathy.

Hands-On Workshops

Following the performance, Bart conducted workshops with each class, providing the students with a hands-on experience of some of his daily struggles. These activities included:

  • Shuffling Along the Floor: Pupils experienced what it feels like to shuffle along the floor, simulating a situation where Bart might fall and need to move without assistance to get back upright. This activity helped students understand the physical challenges and the importance of perseverance.
  • Writing Struggles: Students were asked to mirror Bart's grip on a pencil, giving them insight into the difficulties he faces with writing. This exercise fostered empathy and a deeper appreciation for the effort required to perform tasks that many take for granted.

Benefits of the Experience

The visit from Bart had a profound impact on the pupils at Park Primary School. Here are some of the key benefits:

  • Inclusion and Empathy: By experiencing Bart's challenges first hand, students developed a greater sense of empathy and understanding towards individuals with disabilities. This promotes a more inclusive and supportive school environment.
  • Awareness of SEND: The workshops provided valuable insights into Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), helping students recognize and respect the diverse needs of their peers.
  • Resilience and Determination: Bart's story and his ability to overcome obstacles served as a powerful example of resilience and determination. Students were inspired to face their own challenges with a positive attitude and perseverance.

Overall, Bart's visit to Park Primary School was a memorable and enriching experience for everyone involved. It not only educated the pupils about the realities of living with a disability but also encouraged them to embrace inclusivity and support their peers with SEND.
